Why Outcomes Matter
In my experience as a Technical Program Manager, I've seen how quickly conversations about process improvement turn toward AI automation.
While exploring AI solutions is valuable, jumping directly to technology without understanding the current process can lead teams to automate inefficiencies.
Understand the Current Process
Before deciding on a solution, I believe it's important to understand:
- What does the current process look like?
- What challenges are people experiencing?
- What dependencies exist?
- What outcome are we trying to achieve?
- How will we measure success?
Start With the Desired Outcome
Instead of asking, "What can AI automate?" start by asking, "What problem are we trying to solve?"
Sometimes the right solution is AI automation. Other times, it may be a simpler process improvement, clearer ownership, or better communication.
The goal isn't just to introduce new technology. It's to create meaningful and measurable improvements.
Final Thoughts
AI can be a powerful tool, but technology should support the outcome, not define it.
Start with the problem, understand the process, and choose the solution that creates the greatest impact.
